Occupational therapists help people perform everyday tasks and skills needed for work, school and/or home.

When children or adults are having trouble performing daily tasks because of injury, aging, developmental delay or any other condition, an occupational therapist can help.

Occupational therapists work with families and carers to help the individual achieve confidence and independence.

Therapy may include equipment, an assessment of the home and school environment to decide if any changes can be made to make daily activities easier or safer, identifying techniques to increase independence and improve well being.

How does occupational therapy help children?

There are many reasons children might need extra help with daily tasks. Our paediatric occupational therapist can assist children who have difficulty with:

• Fine motor skills
• Gross motor skills
• Sensory processing skills
• Handwriting and drawing skills
• Self care skills
• Play skills

An occupational therapist will work with your child to develop skills through targeted therapies and support services such as:

• Setting goals and helping develop confidence and independence
• Providing advice to home carers, kindergarten, childcare and schools
• Providing home, kinder and school programs
• Recommending therapy groups or individual therapy programs
