Show some Valentine's love

After some tough COVID-years, our Communications Volunteer, Leesa, thinks we should be looking more inwards when it comes to showing love this Valentine's Day, and shares her ideas for a great, love-filled day.

Valentine’s Day is that one day of the year we are expected to focus on the love all around us.

But, I think it is time to treat ourselves to a bit of love, and exercise self-care.

Show some self-love this Valentine's Day.

So this Valentine’s Day, I think we should take some time to step away from the daily routines like cleaning, cooking, working and the other things we do in our daily lives and do something special for yourself.

Do something you really love to do, because you really deserve it.

And this self-care shouldn’t be just reserved for Valentine’s Day - it could be once a week.  You could set a time for you to do something you really love to do.

Here are some ideas that I have come up with (they are things that I love doing when I have time).

  1. Read a good book
  2. Sleep in, like really sleep in. Have your partner do something with fun with the children or your pets, so they don’t come near you in bed.
  3. Don’t answer the phone, watch tv, or computers.
  4. Take a long hot bath with bubbles and candles.
  5. Take a long walk to a place and think about everything you have achieved during the year.
  6. Buy yourself something that you wanted for a long time.
  7. Watch a good movie to make you laugh or cry.
  8. Listen to music you like.
  9. Dance to your favourite music and be silly.
  10. Pamper yourself.
  11. De-stress by reading book in bath with relaxing essential oils or bubble bath.
  12. Have a massage.
  13. Do some craft.
  14. Buy yourself some flowers or chocolate.
  15. Go out for dinner.
  16. Make your favourite dinner (or better still, have someone make it for you).
  17. Do your favourite hobby.
  18. Take your dog for a walk.
  19. Breakfast in bed.
  20. Take a long drive.

However you spend Valentine’s Day, may it be filled with lots of love for you. Enjoy.
