The past year at Connect Health & Community has been, like everywhere, most challenging - and surprisingly uplifting - as we worked with our community to meet the challenges of a worldwide pandemic.
In the face of disruptions brought by COVID-19 our frontline carers embraced the test set before them to adapt and change to ensure we could best support our community through the unprecedented health crisis.
With a great majority of our clients utilising our services to ensure not only their physical, but mental wellbeing, it was critical that we kept the lines of connection open. All at time when it was essential that we remain apart.
This test brought an opportunity for rapid change and learning, as we quickly adapted our services. Once only available in-person – they now were being delivered via telephone or video, while critical face-to-face support was maintained.
Our social support groups were tailored to individual needs and delivered at home, while physiotherapy was provided via video and visits to the dentist event went online.
Outside of our core service delivery, we engaged with community groups to make and deliver food, hand sanitiser, masks and COVID-safe support to those less fortunate in our communities. We also expanded our business to include the Sandringham Ambulatory Care Centre that would provide much needed COVID testing to the local area.
It was a year that few of us would have envisaged, but one that enabled us to each take responsibility for our role in the community, and providing a legacy we could each be proud of for generations to come.
As we head to 2021 with a hard-earned cautious optimism for the year ahead, I wish you all the very happiest and safest festive season with your loved ones, and a brighter year ahead where we grow healthier together.
