They say a picture tells a thousand words, but for a number of Connect Health & Community Social Support clients, a thousand words just doesn’t seem enough.
Noel, Maha, Peggy and Doris, were were featured in the St. Leonards College and Bayside Community, 'The Moment Project,' and were left speechless with the results.
The initiative was has held during the first round of COVID-19 restrictions this year as part of community connection project. A wonderful exercise in keeping students connected with their community, photos were submitted for consideration and matched with a student artist, who would then return a rendering of the subject.
Social Support Co-ordinator, Brooke, said it was a great honour for five our our clients' images to be selected among the hundreds of photos submitted to the initiative.
“The Moment Project was a community portrait project dedicated to promoting awareness, friendship and kindness between children and members of the local Bayside community, through the universal language of art. Hundreds of photos were submitted from across the community and we are delighted to have had so many of our beautiful clients chosen and celebrated in such a special way,” she said.
Brooke said everyone was delighted with the result.
“The results were breathtaking – literally. Not only did the students create wonderful pieces of work, but they demonstrated a real connection with the people behind the image, even from just a simple photo,” she said.
All the featured clients now have their portraits printed, framed and in pride of place at home, and a very special place in their hearts.
“This has been a beautiful exercise for all our Social Support clients, even those who didn’t have their portraits painted, as it demonstrated the place older people hold in our community, and the love, respect and understanding with which they are held in the hearts of our younger generations,” she said.
