Connect Health & Community hosted a fun afternoon with residents, local councillors and local MP, Nick Staikos on Monday to recognise the achievements of residents in creating a mural that celebrates life on the Bluff Road Housing Estate.

For the past 12 months, residents of the Bluff Road Housing Estate have been working together to create a sense of connection and community as part of a Connect Health & Community health and wellbeing initiative.

Connect Health, the Bayside Development Working Group and the Bayside Engagement Project, have been working with residents to identify opportunities to strengthen relationships with each other and service providers.

The result has included social groups and workshops, monthly barbecues, a community newsletter, direct access to social services and a residents’ advisory group.

The mural beside the children’s playground, is a larger than life testament to the growing connection and unity, being created by more than 40 residents who helped design, paint and transform the storage shed wall into a celebration of life in the estate community.

The design reflects the physical and natural environment as well as residents’ vision for estate life moving forward.

Residents enjoyed the opportunity to meet with local representatives in the warm of the afternoon, showing them the work undertaken and progress made, while also seeking support for further initiatives to further strengthen their community connections.
