Eat well with diabetes

National Diabetes Week, 12 – 18 July

By Connect Health & Community dietitian, Angela.

During this very difficult time we are spending more time than ever before at home.  But is very important that to eat well and stay physically active, particularly if you have diabetes.

Eating well is an important part of diabetes management.

There is no need to prepare separate meals or buy special foods — the entire family can enjoy the same healthy meals.

Also spending more time at home and taking a break from our usual busy lives may mean we have more chance to experiment with preparing meals at home.  Winter is perfect soup weather and you can often include plenty of vegetables to ensure you get your 5 veg a day.

Check out Taste.com.au or https://www.diabetesaustralia.com.au/recipes for some great recipe ideas.

If you are concerned about the supermarket and want to avoid leaving your house, check out some online food delivery services.  They deliver fresh produce, fruit and vegetables right to your door.  There are also meal kits like Hello Fresh or Dinnerly as well as companies that will provide pre-prepared meals such as Lite-n-Easy, Katrina’s Kitchen, Dineamic or Meals in a Moment.

If you are concerned about your nutrition during this period or just want to get some more ideas to improve your diet, Connect Health and Community dietitians are available to assist you via phone, telehealth or face-to-face appointments.

Please contact us on 03) 9575 5333 to discuss your needs.
